Chickamauga Lake is a 35,000 square foot lake formed by the Chickamauga Dam which is part of the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) system. The dam itself is located within the city limits of Chattanooga. The lake makes possible all water related sports: fishing, boating, camping, water skiing, and jet skiing. There are two state parks and four municipal parks located on the lake.
There are many boating opportunities at the lake including ten marinas. Public boating ramps are available for those wishing to keep their boats at home. Two private yacht clubs - Privateer and Chattanooga - offer regattas and family events. Chester Frost Park, a Hamilton County Park, has a public swimming beach, fishing pier, boat ramps, picnic areas - including some covered, and camping facilites. From Chickamauga Lake it is possible to sail or cruise to the Gulf of Mexico through a series of locks.
Chickamauga Lake has over 810 miles of shoreline which offers housing opportunies. As would be expected, lakefront properties are pricey. However, condominiums give a more affordable alternative to private homes. There are many public boat ramps and marinas for homeowners who want to be near the lake.
